秘密基地に入社して半年後・・・・・夏季休暇の前日に・・・・社長室に呼ばれ

「ちみ・ちみ・・・アメリカにに行く気・・・有るかい？」
と

問われたのでありました
。
そして
・・
「夏休みが終わったら・・・返事して下さいね。」
と
・・
。
Just before 1984 Summer vacation, I was called by my boss and asked
that
Did you want to go to America in certain period ?
予想外のお話でしたから・・・ちょっぴり面喰いましたが
・・・
・・
我々の世代は・・・・・ダパンプのUSAと言う曲の歌詞に・・・・・表現されている様に

アメリカと言う国に・・・・とても強い憧れを持っていた・・・・・世代ですから

「 行きます！ 」

即答してしまったのは・・・当然の事でありました

Because it was an unexpected story,
I was slightly eloquent.
But
Young people of that era, had a strong longing for America.
and I was one of them.
I answerd Ofcause Yes!
そんな訳で
日本のレース界さえろくに知らぬまま
（（ この時の8年ほど前にレースメカニックのアルバイトをしたことが有っただけです。））
私は
1985年の1月から・・・・1988年中盤まで
の
3年半と言う期間を
・・・
(普通じゃない）アメリカ人達と一緒に仕事することになったのであります
・・・
。
In such circumstances,
I had spend three and harf years there with unuseal Americans.
Today's SACLAM に 時々出てくるアメリカ人たちは
その時に関わりを持った人たちでして
・・・・
今でも時たま・・・（10年ぶりとか）不定期にですが・・・コンタクトできていることが
財産なのであります

Americaus who come out sometimes in Today's SACLAM are people with a relationship at that time,
and it is my preasure

11月に鈴鹿で開催された SOUND OF ENGINE のために来日した
Doug Peterson 氏
も
その中の一人でありまして
Doug Petersn who came to Japan last Novemver, for attending Soun Of Engine at Suzuka, was one of them.

1985~1988年くらいの事は・・・お互い仕事でかかわっていましたから・・・・大体わかっているつもりでしたが
We know eahother around 1985~1988, but not know well before that or after that.
それ以前・・・や・・・・その後の・・事については
断片的にしか
知らなかったのであります
。
最近クラシックMINIにはまりつつある私ですので
MiniのスペシャリストでもあるDoug氏に

As I recenly got into the classic Mini,
(It is cute car!)
I asked Doug that I wishd to know his Mini and Its story for me and for my customer
who was looking in Today's SACLAM.

1971年
Doug はこの時 19歳
。
ジョージア州のアトランタで行われる
RUN・OFF
（ 全米クラブレーサーのチャンピオンを決める決勝レース）
に
Dave Rugh氏のチームクルーとして参加したのが
レースを志す切欠だったそうです
。
In 1971 I crewed for Dave Rugh who raced a C sedan Ford Escort Mk 1 and attended the SCCA National Championship Runoffs held at the Road Atlanta track in Georgia.
Attending that race inspired me to obtain a racing license and begin racing myself.
ある時
彼のお母さんから
「車に夢中で・・・フットボールに全く興味を示さない・・・・変わった子供だったのよ♪」
と
聞いたことがありますので・・・レースの世界を目指すことになったのも・・・・当然の事だったのでしょう
。
1973年
21歳の時 SCCAのレース・ライセンスを入手するために
SAERS POINTで開催されたライセンス講習会に
自分のフォードで参加した時の写真です
。
When I turned 21 I attended SCCA drivers school at Sears Point Raceway and
after completing the school, ran the required six regional races to qualify for my SCCA national license, which I received in February 1974.
At that point my goal was to run enough races to qualify for the runoffs in November at Road Atlanta.
My drivers school in 1973 in a Ford Anglia.
UNO「なんでこの車だったの？」
DOUG「安かったからね♪」
Q. any reason for why Anglia?
A. I chose the Anglia because I crewed on an English Ford Escort Mk.1 in 1971 and 1973 and parts were reasonable. The car was also very cheap!
Q. Sears Point?
A. My drivers school was at Sears Point in March of 1973. Good guess!
その後この地区で行われるローカルレースにレースに6回出走し
ナショナルライセンスを入手した
Dougは

翌年のための準備を開始したのです
